Trip Overview
Mount Meru (4,566m) is Tanzania’s second-highest mountain and a perfect warm-up trek before climbing Kilimanjaro. The trail passes through lush montane forests, wildlife-rich zones, and dramatic ridges leading to Socialist Peak. All treks are accompanied by an armed ranger due to the presence of wildlife in Arusha National Park.
This 3-day route is ideal for hikers looking for a short but rewarding high-altitude adventure.
FULL ITINERARY
Day 1: Momella Gate (1,500m) – Miriakamba Hut (2,500m)
Begin at Momella Gate for registration and meet your armed ranger. The trail passes through forest and open plains with chances to spot giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, and monkeys. The path gradually ascends to Miriakamba Hut. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 2: Miriakamba Hut – Saddle Hut (3,570m)
The trail becomes steeper as you climb through lush forests and into the high-altitude heath zone. Reach Saddle Hut in the afternoon and take an acclimatization hike to Little Meru (3,820m) for stunning views. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 3: Summit Day – Saddle Hut to Socialist Peak (4,566m) – Momella Gate
Start the summit attempt around midnight. The trail follows a narrow ridge with dramatic drops on both sides—very scenic and exciting. Reach Socialist Peak at sunrise for panoramic views of Kilimanjaro and Arusha National Park. Descend back to Saddle Hut for a short rest, continue down to Miriakamba Hut, and finally return to Momella Gate where you receive your trekking certificate. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
