Trip Overview
The Rongai Route approaches Kilimanjaro from the northern side, close to the Kenyan border. It is known for its gentle gradient, quiet trails, and beautiful wilderness scenery. This route is ideal for climbers looking for a less-crowded path with a high success rate and steady acclimatization. The descent is via the Marangu Route, giving you a full-circle experience of the mountain.
FULL ITINERARY
Day 1: Machame Gate (1,800m) – Machame Camp (3,000m)
Start with registration at Machame Gate, followed by a trek through lush rainforest. Expect mild slopes, fresh air, and occasional wildlife sightings. Meals: Lunch & Dinner

Day 2: Machame Camp – Shira Cave Camp (3,840m)
Climb steep ridges and ascend above the forest line. You’ll cross heather and moorland zones with beautiful views of the Shira Plateau. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 3: Shira Camp – Lava Tower (4,630m) – Barranco Camp (3,950m)
A key acclimatization day. Hike to Lava Tower, where you'll reach 4,630m before descending to Barranco Camp. This “climb high, sleep low” method helps your body adjust. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 4: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp (4,035m)
The day begins with the iconic Barranco Wall. It looks intimidating but is very doable and incredibly scenic. After the wall, trek through ridges and valleys to Karanga Camp. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 5: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp (4,640m)
A steady climb to the base camp, Barafu. You’ll rest early and receive a briefing for the midnight summit attempt. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 6: Summit Day – Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Mweka Camp (3,100m)
Start your ascent around midnight. Reach Stella Point at sunrise, and continue to Uhuru Peak, Africa’s highest summit. After celebrating, descend to Barafu for rest, then continue down to Mweka Camp. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 7 (Exit Day): Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate (1,640m)
Descend through the rainforest to Marangu Gate. Receive your summit certificate and transfer back to your hotel.
